There's no such thing as too many books.

This is a wonderful graphic from Last Lemon, which is the work of Lisa Swerling & Ralph Lazar:

There's no such thing as too many books.

Everything is your teacher.

I thought this was a lovely graphic to illustrate the words of Ezra Bayda, a Zen teacher:

When you really pay attention,
everything is your teacher.

Reading: How People Install New Software

A wonderful cartoon by Randy Glasbergen; I was so sad to learn of his death when I went to include a link to him at Wikipedia. He was a wonderful cartoonist!

It's called reading. It's how people install new software in their brains.

A Thousand Lives

This is a wonderful quote about reading from George RR Martin:

A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies.
The man who never reads lives only one.

Slow: Three Seconds

I thought this was a great animated gif to help you ponder the power of slooooow breathing: blue is breathe in... green is breathe out...

Advice from a Tree.

This graphic appears to be adapted from a poem by Ilan Shamir: Advice from a Tree. If you like the graphic, take a look at the poem: it has even more advice.

Advice From a Tree:
Stand Tall and Proud
Go Out on a Limb
Remember Your Roots
Drink Plenty of Water
Be Content With Your Natural Beauty

Unread Book: Just Read! (Bruno Mars)

So, I guess this is my favorite Internet find of the week... of the month... of the year!

Lyrics by Adam Kalma, from the YouTube page:

UNREAD BOOK
This hit (The Great Gatsby)
That nice man
Poor Jay Gatsby
That sad end
This one, about tragic girls (Beloved)
Them helpless girls
Straight masterpiece
Stylin', Holden (The Catcher in the Rye)
Livin' it up in the city
Got cancer and a cool boyfriend (The Fault in Our Stars)
Gotta stop myself I'm so nerdy

It’s too hot (oh man)
Call the police and the firemen (Fahrenheit 451)
It’s too hot (oh man)
See the dragon and the shire man (The Hobbit)
It’s too hot (oh man)
Say her name you know who she is (Hunger Games)
It’s too hot (oh man)
Am I bad 'bout that money (Rich Dad, Poor Dad)
Break it down

Words hit you hallelujah (whuoo)
Words hit you hallelujah (whuoo)
Words hit you hallelujah (whuoo)
'Cause Unread Book gon' give it to you
'Cause Unread Book gon' give it to you
'Cause Unread Book gon' give it to you
Saturday night and I’m in my seat
Don't believe me just read (come on)

Don't believe me just read
Don't believe me just read
Don't believe me just read
Don't believe me just read
Hey, hey, hey, oh!

Stop
Wait a minute
Fill my mind put some verbiage in it
Take a look, it’s a t-rex (Jurassic Park)
Juliet! Tissue next! (Romeo and Juliet)
Ride to outer space or the Earth’s core inna bus with that hippie (The Magic School Bus)
If she show up, he better get out (Gone Girl)
Or whydonchu take a lesson from Pippi (Pippi Longstocking)

Ooh, it’s too hot (oh man)
Call the police and the firemen (The Outsiders)
It’s too hot (oh man)
With the dragon girl and the Swedish man (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)
It’s too hot (oh man)
Don’t say his name you know who it is (Harry Potter)
It’s too hot (oh man)
Why’s he mad 'bout that honey (Winnie the Pooh)
Break it down

Words hit you hallelujah (whuoo)
Words hit you hallelujah (whuoo)
Words hit you hallelujah (whuoo)
'Cause Unread Book gon' give it to you
'Cause Unread Book gon' give it to you
'Cause Unread Book gon' give it to you
Saturday night and I’m in my seat
Don't believe me just read (come on)

Don't believe me just read
Don't believe me just read
Don't believe me just read
Don't believe me just read
Hey, hey, hey, oh!

Before we leave
Imma tell y’all a lil’ something
Unread Book it up, Unread Book it up
Unread Book it up, Unread Book it up
I said Unread Book it up, Unread Book it up
Unread Book it up, Unread Book it up

Come on, glance
Jump in it
If you check it out, return it
If you want it, then buy it
You can brag about it, just tweet it
Come on, glance
Jump in it
If you kindlin’, e-book it
‘Cause it’s Saturday night and you’re in your seat
Don’t feel guilty just read (come on)

Don’t feel guilty just read
Don’t feel guilty just read
Everybody just read
Everybody just read
Everybody just read
Hey, hey, hey, oh!

And here's Bruno Mars if you want to compare! :-)

A mind needs books

A wonderful quote from Game of Thrones: A mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone if it is to keep its edge. That is why I read so much.

Be Brave for Education

From a discussion with someone at Google+ today, I learned a new word: didaskaleinophobia, which is the fear of school. Growth mindset is a good way to confront the fears that can stand in your way, including those little fears —what if I make a mistake? what if I look foolish? what if I just don't get it? — that do not merit the label "phobia" ... and if you need a bravery boost, just watch this video: Be Brave for Education. For the lyrics, see the Sara Bareilles - Brave page at genius.com.

You can find out more about the Montessori teachers who made this video at their website: BeBrave4Education.com.

Beginnings and Endings

I saw this quote from the Buddhist teacher Jack Kornfield at Twitter, and I combined it with this image of a Buddha from Pixabay. You can find out more about Jack Kornfield at Wikipedia.

Everything that has a beginning has an ending.
Make your peace with that and all will be well.

What makes a book good

Most of what makes a book "good" is that we are reading it at the right moment for us.
